| August 2007: This is the first time the story
has been posted on the web and a new section for the AFT. Although a Superheroes section had been
planned and two stories filmed and edited the original AFT
closed before they could be posted. |

Takara's
Supergirl speeds into action. |
|
| As a kid I loved Spiderman. There was a live action
TV series and my Friday nights were spent watching the
TV show and then playing with either my mego 8"
superhero figures (including the Hulk, Spiderman,
Captain America, Batman and Robin) or my pocket
superheroes which included Batman, the Joker and Wonder
Woman. I had no real concept of the comic book versions
of these characters only the figures and any TV or film
versions that were spawned and I happily played out
superhero adventures. Although I've since encountered
the various characters in their comic forms the
inspiration behind this story is those childhood games:
a basic one off crimefighting story full of colour and
action. |
| So why now? Basically I'm a complete sucker for
3.75in figures. When Toybiz made their Legends/Superhero
Showdown figures I was hooked. Coupled with the Takara
Microman figures of DC characters it was inevitable that
they would find their way onto the AFT at some point. |

 |
| This story was almost filmed twice. Initially
the action shots were pictures of the Spiderman figure against a
yellow screen and then pasted onto a real background of New
York. In April 2006 I made a set of 'New York' buildings in
order to film this story and a Batgirl adventure and so reshot
the 'yellow screen' images again. |

 |
 |
| The original edit comprised six full page images
as with the original AFT format. Since the story had been fully
storyboarded, it was possible to fill out some of the boxes as
and when they were filmed. For the second edit, the story was
broken down into individual images (as was then the AFT custom) |

 |
| I make no apologies for the lack of
continuity in this story. I'm not as knowledgeable about
comic book continuity as with something like Doctor Who.
Some might say that I shouldn't really be dabbling with
something I don't understand. That's a fair point and
I'm not trying to tread on anyone's toes by doing this.
But I say it's possible to have a fun comic book story
that doesn't have to fit in with any kind of back story.
|
| Additionally having figures of the
superheroes, but not their alter-egos makes it difficult
to include character's backstories. |
|
The copy of The Daily Bugle held by
Spiderman at the end contains a headline at the bottom
of the page referring to a diamond theft in Gotham City.
This refers to a Catwoman story that has been filmed and
will hopefully appear here one day. |
