| Ood |
| Back when the AFT began we had
to make all our Doctor Who figures from scratch.
These days we are blessed with some very good
quality figures, not just of the Doctor and his
latest companions but also a variety of monsters
and other characters to populate the Whoniverse. |

interesting, exciting and surprising
things to come... |
|
| So while the AFT may be using
existing characters and monsters you've seen
before and probably own yourself, we'll try and
do interesting, exciting and surprising things
with them. |

as a monthly episodic site. For those of you purists who prefer
the AFT in strip format, fear not. That format is not gone
forever. |

| Inspiration for this one came from the figures,
the story really suggested itself. The Doctor spacewalking
outside the TARDIS and leaving the telepathic Ood to operate the
ship according to his thoughts. |

 |
| The story began shooting on 15 August 2007 with
the scenes set on the Ood space ship, then the TARDIS shots and
finally the 'blue screen' elements. |
| The sets were created in photoshop and
are available to download from the
downloads page. |

| The space station went through a different
design before the finished one. It was created
entirely in photoshop. |

 |
|
| What exactly the transpore is forms the basis
for part two but there were several possible ideas for why the
Doctor would undertake this dangerous mission. One idea was that
it was a missile heading to Earth, back through time thus only
the TARDIS was able to follow it. The Doctor would open the
missile to discover it's occupant and thus the enemy he was
fighting. At one point it was to have been the Daleks. I loved
the idea of leaving the Doctor stranded in space facing the
approach of a Dalek army in space. |
| It took a lot of working out to get Ood In Space
and indeed the whole Flash series off the ground. Tests were
carried out using Symphony 5 first of all. We experimented with
exporting the finished flash images as an AVI that could have
sound and music added using video editing software. Eventually
we found a way of adding music and specifically cued sound
effects, though emphasis for this episode has been on music
rather than sound effects. |
| The title was coined as soon as the storyline
suggested itself. Only once the story was edited was it fully
adopted. |
|
|
|
 |
| There is nothing within the story to suggest an
exact point in the timeline but it occurs sometime during series
three, probably after The Lazarus Experiment where Martha
joins the TARDIS as a fully paid up crew member. I have
arbitrarily placed it after 42. |
| The Doctor's space suit came from The Satan
Pit, assuming that he didn't give the suit back when he
dropped off Ida at the end of that story. |
