With the availability of the Character Options
figures and a complete lack of supporting cast in their scale,
this is one of a few adventures that were written to make use of
the toys while featuring little or no other characters. The
story could be taken as a simple retelling of The Tomb of the
Cybermen.
The EarthNet newsfeed website was based
on the BBC's news website.

Instructions
The sets for this story were designed in
photoshop and constructed from paper. The Cyber 'Tombs' were
very much based on those scene in Tomb of the Cybermen. The
console is taken directly from that story, using paintings by
Andrew Skilleter from his and David Banks' 'Cybermen' book.
The Cybermen's transmat is the cloud city
weather vain that came with the Saga Bespin Luke in 2002 with
the power box and cables from the vintage tripod laser canon and
vehicle maintenance engine respectively. The control panel that
the Cyberman is holding is the firing backpack from the Episode
1 Sith accessory pack. The Doctor's cloaking device is an
accessory from a spy kids figure. His bomb is an accessory from
a Corps space figure.
While the TARDIS console room set had been seen
briefly in the previous story Backwards, it appears here in
full. Making its debut on the site is the Police Box part of
the TARDIS (a CO money box)
The Earth probe was originally intended to be
K-9 but this was deemed to be an overuse of Character Options
figures so a paper robot was designed and built.
This story is set after Age of Steel (featuring
Rose's first encounter with the Cybermen) but before Army of
Ghosts/ Doomsday (her last adventure) Despite the fact that
these are the 'parallel Earth' versions of the Cybermen the
story makes the assumption that such a look was also developed
by
the Cybermen in our universe.
The headlines on the first page are mostly
random but the 'Earth Reptile Parliament' refers to the
Silurians speculating that they co exist on Earth following
Warriors of the Deep. London Seabase is a reference to global
warming and the assertion that London will be flooded by the
early 21st Century.
Although not clearly shown on screen, the rover
robot bears the symbol of the Torchwood Institute.
