The crowd scenes at the "Far Out"
include several figures including Brannigan, Kudlak and
Primeval's Abby, Stephen, Connor and Claudia. |
 |
| There are several custom creations
including Belinda from New Year's Eve, a 'Mimbari' Rose,
a red Lazlo. The club's bouncers are 5" scale Sentienz
from The Infinity Program. |
| Space Daddy is a modified and repainted
10th Doctor. I suspect he'll make a return appearance at
some point. |

| Why didn't Torchwood arrest the Doctor
when he was exiled to Earth in the late 20th Century? |
| Obviously, in terms of the TV series,
Torchwood hadn't been invented when Jon Pertwee was
playing UNIT's scientific advisor. But in the universe
of the show, Torchwood did exist during the Doctor's
exile so how did he escape detection? |
| It's possible that Torchwood was only
looking for the 10th Doctor but it's a tantalising notion that Jack
could have been protecting the Doctor and that's what I
wanted to explore. |
|
The main inspiration behind Fox Hunt was the new Sarah
Jane Adventures villain Ingrid Fox. It quickly became
apparent that she would outgrow the Sarah Jane series
and also move into Doctor Who so why should Torchwood
miss out? |
|
Setting it in 1978 allowed us to show Jack protecting
the exiled Doctor as well as negating the need for other
Torchwood characters that are not yet available. |
|
The 70s period is evoked by the alien disco. I loved the
thought of an underbelly of aliens living in Cardiff but
enjoying the music and social life of the time. |

| The script was completed on 15 July 08. The story was shot
on 18 August 08. |
| It was shot all in one night, virtually in
sequence. The Jack/Ingrid scenes on the roof were shot in front
of a window onto the night sky adding to the atmosphere. |
| The Far Out's dance floor uses coloured paper on
a glass table, lit from below. The miniature disco ball adds to
the 70s feel. |
| The Cardiff streets and roof tops are
part of a permanent set I have made. Also within this is
a Dalek control room, redressed and used as the
warehouse interior, and a Torchwood cell seen very
briefly (left) |

 |
| The edit was fairly straight forward
too. Extra panels were added on page one to establish
the night club and also on page two to bolster Jack and
the Daddy's fight. Something lost from the original
script is that Jack and the Daddy, having beaten each
other to a pulp, collapse into laughter prompting Jack's
"We should do this again sometime." |

 |
| Our first Torchwood episode takes place in 1978 long before
the TV series began and therefore only features Jack. |
| UNIT dating is a very wayward affair but this story takes
its cue from Sarah Jane's Pyramids of Mars comment that she's
from 1980. Certainly, the Doctor is working for UNIT either in
his 3rd or 4th incarnation. The picture that Ingrid shows Jack
is from Invasion of the Dinosaurs. |
 |
| It's also the first proper appearance of our ongoing
character Ingrid Fox, first seen in last month's Sarah Jane
Adventures episode,
CONNECTED. The story continues
in THE
HIDDEN ENEMY. |
 |
Ingrid's Torchwood file, created for
the composite shot is recreated here. |
